Family Table Counseling PLLC now sees clients in Texas AND Florida!

Dr. Nicole Vargas, LMFT-BAS, AAMFT-Approved Supervisor

- The sister that came first, and doesn’t let you forget it -

Nicole is the owner of Family Table Counseling. With over 16 years in the mental health field, Dr. Vargas has worked with individuals, couples, and families with all kinds of backgrounds and experiences. Nicole believes that people have the tools they need to make changes in their own lives, and she works with her clients to discover those tools. She looks beyond routine interactions and patterns that make people "stuck" and helps clients discover strengths and new ways of relating to others. Clients have described Dr. Vargas as compassionate, progressive, non-judgmental, and as a "gentle challenger."

A large portion of Nicole's case experience is working with clients around issues of cultural and sexual diversity, marital conflict, and first responder trauma. However, she has often said that she finds every single person she has worked with fascinating and admirable, and considers it a privilege to learn each one’s story.

Dr. Vargas is an adjunct professor at Texas Woman's University, and has spoken at national and international conferences on a wide variety of topics in the mental health field. She has acted in editorial capacities for academic journals, dissertations, books and magazines, and made guest-appearances on a variety of media platforms.

As a state board-approved and AAMFT-approved supervisor, Dr. Vargas is passionate about supervising and mentoring other therapists to help them help others. Nicole is currently seeing clients and supervisees via telehealth (virtually).

In her spare time, Nicole loves spending time with her husband and son, cooking, going to the dog park, sci-fi and fantasy (esp. Dr. Who), and traveling. She loves to laugh and be “quirky,” and utilizes humor (watch out for random puns) when appropriate with her clients.

Samantha Gordon, M.S., LMFT

- The middle child, always last to find out -

Samantha co-runs Family Table Counseling PLLC. She has a passion for helping her clients and their families manage issues related to disordered eating, eating disorders, substance abuse, depression, anxiety, ADHD, and all that goes along with this. Samantha is working toward attaining her certification to be a Certified Eating Disorder Specialist.

Her clinical experience ranges in demographics and issues including eating disorder treatment, inpatient and outpatient levels of care, with adults and adolescents, LGBTQIA2S+, substance use, and mood and anxiety disorders. She uses individualized therapeutic approaches, such as therapy with music and art activities, and prioritizes meeting you where you are in your journey.

Samantha believes that the relationship you have with yourself and others influences the way you manage your life. She is passionate about empowering individuals and families to feel more connected to themselves, their relationships, and their life. She looks forward to helping clients collaboratively navigate through difficult times and build confidence that lasts.

As an animal lover, Samantha can usually be found with one of many pets in her lap (and let’s face it, crawling all over her). When she is able to break away from them, she likes to explore nature, play boardgames, learn to play the ukulele, engage in joyful movement, and read.
